An indispensable Network Administration Tool
Administering IP Networks effectively can sometimes turn into a daunting job. One day everything seems to be just fine and the next users are complaining that their work is hindered by a slow network. It is in these difficult situations where a copy of Distinct Network Monitor can come in very handy.
For the network administrator, Distinct Network Monitor version 5.1 offers advanced statistics gathering and reporting in addition to packet sniffing capabilities that interpret the packets in simple English.
Furthermore Distinct Network Monitor comes with one remote Agent to allow monitoring remote systems that are not physically within your reach.
In addition to its enhanced packet sniffing capabilities, Distinct Network Monitor comes with a very versatile statistics reporting module, called ReportBuilder.
To get a grasp on what type of traffic may be clogging your network, all you need to do is to attach the computer running Distinct Network Monitor to your switch's Span or mirror port such that it is able to capturing traffic statistics for the mirrored ports. The statistical sampling will be saved to an Access database. This is where the new ReportBuilder comes in. ReportBuilder can generate many different types of reports which will give you a better understanding of which systems are using up bandwidth and what that bandwidth is being used for.
In addition to bandwidth reporting, ReportBuilder can provide detailed network usage reports by IP, by application protocol, by IP protocols, by network protocol, or by IPX or Ethernet address. It is also possible to get more detailed reports for HTTP and FTP usage showing all requests for files or pages and what those requests were.
